View your BlackBerry Storm signal in decibels instead of bars using this secret code.

  1. Flip the phone into Landscape Mode.
  2. From the Home screen, press and hold the !?123 button to enable numlock.
  3. Press Menu and select Show Keyboard.
  4. Type ! , ” “

Your signal will now be displayed as a number in decibels. To switch it back to bars, simply repeat these steps.

Explanation on how to read and determine the displayed info

For the “Signal Strength”, if you are in the 100 area (that means -100 dBm), you will be transmitting at maximum power (2 Watts), and since coverage is hit and miss at this weak a signal, you may end up transmitting many times before the packets make it through. This might help explain any poorer than normal battery life. We consider anything at -85 to -40 excellent.
